Why Does Traditional Power Supply Waste Energy?

Each pixel on an LED display typically consists of red, green, and blue LEDs. These three colours require different operating voltages:

  • Red LEDs require a relatively low operating voltage.

  • Green and blue LEDs require higher voltages.

Traditional common‑anode power supply applies a unified voltage to all LEDs. When the supplied voltage exceeds the actual requirement of a given LED, the excess voltage is not converted into brightness – it is dissipated as heat. That excess energy represents additional, unnecessary power consumption.


How Does Common‑Cathode Technology Work?

Common‑cathode technology uses a colour‑specific voltage supply, providing each LED colour with a voltage closer to its actual requirement. Typical values are:

According to the electrical power formula:

Power = Voltage × Current
